Basic analytics added to The Hype Machine

What do we think of this then?

I have to say I’m not convinced. This graphs reveals the speed of favourites per hour, and subsequent blog posts. But does this add anything to the popular chart itself?

It’s a given that those appearing on this list will have a greater volume of ‘loves’ in recent days, as they become higher profile. All it takes is a few key posts from some of the better-known blogs on Hype’s roster, and the chart runs away with itself. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy almost.

I can’t say I’m that interested, and I wonder if many other users will either. There’s nothing by way of an explanation on the Hype blog yet either, but maybe the team see this as a positive in a way that’s much less obvious to an outsider.

Adele at the BRITs

This video of Adele singing ‘Someone Like You’ at the Brit Awards 2011 has been everywhere of late.

Her ‘comeback’ album 21 (if you could really call it that, since she was performing throughout the period between 19’s release in 2008 and now) was recently at number one in 14 countries. The world’s gone crazy for this girl.

But despite incredible overplay but most of the web, I can’t help myself from coming back to this clip time and time again.

There aren’t many artists that could hold a room of this size, with nothing but a piano to support them. It’s a stunning performance, beautiful because of its simplicity.

Bingo at Ultra Music Festival, Miami

Ultra music festival (UMF)/Miami Music Week starts this Friday, and as usual, has a stellar line up of electro acts on its three-day bill. From deadmau5 to The Chemical Brothers and Underworld, it’s set to be another great year.

Barcelona’s SONAR is my focus for this Summer (and my first ever festival abroad), but I’ve got my eyes on downtown Miami’s oceanfront Bicentennial Park for next year. The sheer size of it is phenomenal, with 16 stages featuring more than 300 DJs, bands and producers that will be visited by almost 150,000 people.

As dance and rave culture descends from around the glove, Miami New Times has created this tongue-in-cheek bingo card (click to view full size) that with a few tweaks, could be made applicable to any festival. Particularly the ‘Eurotrash’ spot. Enough said.

Avicii has released the official anthem for UMF – Hello Miami – and as a result is all over the Hype Machine popular chart today. Personally I prefer F**k the Music, which is dripping with sunshine and features a funky electro bassline, capped with a classic female vocal.

Burial, Four Tet and Thom Yorke

Once upon a time, Burial and Four Tet got to together to make a delicious slice of dubstep-inspired synth called Moth. Music bloggers across the land fawned, we played it on repeat and sighed at the marvel of such a perfect unison.

Then, just two years later, they did it again. But this time added Thom Yorke to the mix to make something equally beautiful.

Ego is the a-side of the trio’s forthcoming 12” single, where the flipside’s ‘Mirror’ shows the layering and clear distinction between each artists’ roles. Burial for the beats, Four Tet for the colour and Yorke on vocals. The result is effortless.
